THE UNIVERSITY OF TOKYO
The University of Tokyo, a public research university located in Bunkyo, Tokyo, was founded in 1877 by the Meiji government through the merging of Tokyo Kaisei School and Tokyo Medical School.
Academic sessions are led by prominent professors at the University of Tokyo as well as Japanese government officials.
Activities in years past have included tours of the Imperial Palace Gardens, visits to the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo, tea parties with Caroline Kennedy, night views from Tokyo Tower and Tokyo Skytree, and excursions to religious sities like Meiji Jungu shrine and Senso-ji temple.
Social events include homestay with local Japanese families, shopping in Shibuya and Harajuku, eating sushi at Tsukiji fish market, and going to a traditional Japanese bath house called onsen.
